Review: Skinfood Rice Mask Wash Off

I almost got no time in posting beauty product reviews because I have been busy taking care of an infant who needs a lot of attention especially now that he has growth spurt. Also, we are just 3 persons in the household and my good husband barely even have an off from work. Not to mention the other tasks I need to attend to when I’m at work and when I’m home. However difficult it may seem to be, I still love being a new mom because my baby is the best thing that happened to me. I am into new advocacy like exclusively breastfeeding and babywearing. I will share my journey on those advocacy on a separate post soon.

Anyway, enough of my introduction. I’m back in reviewing beauty products because I have a lot of stuff in hand and my cabinet was so full of new and existing products. So for now, let me share with you my new found, the Skinfood Rice Mask Wash-Off.

I am particular with my skincare routine after my pregnancy. My skin was so dry during the 9 months when I had the baby in my tummy and looked worse after giving birth. I was also very careful in choosing products because I’m exclusively breastfeeding my son. After finding out that anything topical is okay for a breastfeeding mom (as long as it’s not near the boobie area) I started reviewing products again. I just need to be extra careful.

I got this item before the holidays. I already have a review with a Skinfood favorite which is also an exfoliate. However, I discovered this to be milder than the former so I got two tubs. One for me and the other is from my sister. She was actually the one who recommended this for me to use.

PACKAGING: The packaging is simple. It is a tub with an inner lid but it doesn’t come with a spatula making application a little unhygienic.

SMELL: It has a very light smell like rice wash. No strong odor present.

TEXTURE: It has a soft, grainy texture that’s easy on the face. Unlike the Black Sugar Mask which feels a bit heavy on the face, this one is milder than my cult favorite exfoliate. This can be used frequently because it doesn't break out on my skin. I usually exfoliate twice

PRICE: It’s a cheaper than the Sugar Mask and milder which makes me want to use daily. Well, I am actually using this daily already since I used up my previous facial wash.

EFFECT: I like this as it's an alternative on my facial wash. I also notice brightening effect after use. So whenever I need a quick fix on ze face, I use this.

Yay for me! (。◕‿  ◕。)
  • Althea offers cheaper pricing than Skinfood's physical stores. .
  • A milder option for exfoliate.
  • Brightens the skin after use.
  • No strong scent.
  • Feels very light on the face.
  • Can be used for a long period of time.

Nay! (。◕︵◕。)
  • Unlike my other exfoliate, this doesn't leave my face really smooth.
  • Online purchase is a little hassle especially with the shipping fee that's why I usually purchase in bulk whenever I shop online.
Price: P310
Bought from: Althea Philippines
 Size: 100g.

Overall, I like that this has a brightening effect that's why I use this whenever I need to have a glowing skin. I also noticed that whenever I use this as my facial cleanser in the morning, my skin has that kind of glow throughout the day.

I am recommending this for everyone to try. However, if you want intense exfoliation, this is not the one for you. Better go and get the Sugar Mask instead.

  1. It is interesting to read about products that I can't really find where I live. They are so different that what I am used to and I am saying this in a good way. I wish we had more natural products, like this rice mask. The brightening effect sounds very interesting.

  2. I used to be a Skinfood fan a few years back. I especially liked their tomato lip tints which are now phased out :( I haven't actually tried any Skinfood products for the face. Thanks for sharing this! You might also want to check out my before make up skincare routine (! If you're having problems with your dry skin, I recommend these products! :)

    1. I have a normal/sensitive kind of skin tho. But thanks for the suggestions.

  3. I can fairly relate on how an infant, especially those with growth spurts, can eat up most of your time so don't worry. We understand you. Haha! Anyway, I am currently 7-months pregnant and I can't wait to give birth as well so I can somehow try new skincare products as my skin's not doing any well, too, in this course of my pregnancy. Though I have to be cautious because I intend to breastfeed when my 2nd baby comes out. Hopefully, there will be great products (I'd like to try korean skin care products!) that are safe for breastfeeding mommas so I can give them a try.

    1. Congrats on your pregnancy and hoping you can exclusively breastfeed too! I am ebf now and would want to push the advocacy to others. As for the skin care, you can try natural korean skin care products from nature republic. They have natural product good for preggy and lactating mons like us.

  4. I'm happy to come across your post on this skin care product. Although I prefer to buy from the brick and mortar stores also so I can save on shipping costs. I hope they would make their product available in supermarkets or pharmacies too.

    1. Or you can try korean stores since this one is a korean product.

  5. Thank you for your review. I'm a big fan of masks and exfoliating scrubs as well but I stick to select brands that my skin loves. After using masks and exfoliators, I make sure to apply a drop or two of castor oil so I maintain the moisture of my face. I'm prone to dryness so I need to moisturize with emollients. I've never had Althea but I guess I need to try their service pretty soon.

  6. First of all, congrats on becoming a mom! :)
Though the product may not effectively exfoliate, when the skin is sensitive, I think this works!

  7. I've been hearing of this brand. It's intriguing and the fact that it has food in the name is enough of an attraction. I've only recently started a skin care routine. Exfoliating is a must!

  8. A rice masks sounds interesting. I've tried several masks, but have no experience with a rice masks. Hopefully I can find the product online or in a store close to me. I'm definitely curious to try it out. I like trying out several masks and discovering what has the best effect on my skin.

  9. i think this would be perfect for me because I am afraid of intense exfoliation as it might damage the skin and cause redness, irritations and other skin problems on me. I am also searching for masks that will suit my skin, I really need that since i am not getting any younger and skin darkening and white heads start to give me problems...

  10. Oooohhh... Maybe I should try this too. I only recently used the Skin Food Black Sugar Mask and I'm loving it. :)
