Movie House: Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge (Dead Men Tell No Tales)

Who doesn't know about the legendary pirate and the greatest trickster the Caribbean has? Captain Jack Sparrow's witty lines always makes everyone adore him and supports his (mis)adventures in the sea. So after 6 years, finally, another Sparrow story to be told.

I admit, I'm not a big fan of the Pirates series and I remember watching it only on it's first installment and totally forgot about the whole story. Despite that, I had a great time watching the latest one on IMAX at SM Clark during it's Super Advanced Screening last May 18, 2017.

The Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge (Dead Men Tell No Tales) is the 5th installment of the highly acclaimed Pirates of the Caribbean franchise which hit the cinemas last May 24, 2017. I will try my very best to review this movie without giving spoilers so others can watch it without much hint about the plot.

Actors: I like the new faces of Henry (Brenton Thwaites) and Carina's (Kaya Scodelario) team. Their ancestors were part of the first few installments so you'll know where they came from. Goeffrey Rush's (Hector Barbossa) character was very intriguing as well. Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar' is undeniably great with his acting performance. Of course, my favorite will still be Jack and Will Turner. Who wouldn't love Orlando Bloom's (Will Turner) good looks and Johnny Depp's really strange character. I actually don't know why he was still alive after all the misadventure s he encountered. 😉

Story: The story began when a British Royal Navy warship where Henry works was about to sail into the Devil's Triangle. Henry, knowing all the details on the curses on the sea (because he was studying all about it) told the captain about the matter but the latter dismisses it and has Henry locked up. As they sail into the Triangle, they come across a shipwreck that quickly comes to life with undead sailors, led by Captain Salazar. The ghost crew board the ship and kill everyone in their path. Henry is confronted by Salazar, who sees a wanted poster for Jack Sparrow in Henry's cell. He allows Henry to live so he can deliver a message to Jack that death is coming his way.

Opinion on the Film: I may not be much of a fan, but for me, the plot of the fifth episode was easy to digest even if you haven't watched all 4 other installments. I also like how it concluded the series when all of the curses on the sea was lift.

I appreciate the film because it was shown in IMAX and the characters were so alive making it more enjoyable. I like the simple take of the movie from beginning to end. I also have a feeling that this might be the last installment because of the ending of the story. Jack retrieved something that belongs to him and the curse on the seas were lifted. So I think it's a happy ending to everyone, isn't it?

Have you watched the movie? What are your thoughts?

    1. It's not that I don't like him, but I am not just a fan. I prefer watching Korean dramas over western film.

This movie was pretty nice though. I love the whole film.
